Players from Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) and Giraffe volleyball teams have been granted a break from training, running from yesterday until Monday, following the conclusion of the first round of the Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball League (DAREVA). The matches wrapped up recently at the KIUT grounds in Gongo la Mboto.
Both KIUT’s men’s and women’s teams ended the first round on a disappointing note. The men’s team fell 3-1 to High Voltage, while the women’s team suffered a straight-set 3-0 loss to Bandari.
The DAREVA league is now on hold to allow teams to participate in the upcoming mini transfer window, which will be opened by the Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF).
The break will also give room for preparations ahead of the Union Tournament, scheduled to take place from April 22 to 26 at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) courts.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, KIUT Sports Coordinator Robin Msigwa acknowledged the challenges faced during the first round and expressed the university’s commitment to using the transfer window to strengthen their squads.
“Our two Serie A teams finished the first round with losses, which clearly showed us the areas we need to improve. We’ll work hard and come back stronger in the next round,” he said.
He also revealed the team’s long-term goal of helping their third team, Giraffe, currently competing in Serie B, secure promotion to Serie A next season.
