Clean cooking energy to end firewood and charcoal burdens for vulnerable groups – Nderiananga

Our Reporter

The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, and Coordination), Hon. Ummy Nderiananga, has underscored the importance of clean cooking energy in improving the well-being of vulnerable groups by reducing the reliance on firewood and charcoal.

She explained that using traditional energy sources like firewood and charcoal not only burdens users with collection challenges but also exposes them to harmful smoke, increasing the risk of respiratory diseases.

Nderiananga made these remarks in Dodoma during a public awareness event promoting the Pika Kisasa (Cook Modern) program, an initiative by the Ministry of Energy to encourage the use of clean cooking energy across the country.

“I urge the community to embrace clean cooking energy with a positive mindset to accelerate its adoption nationwide,” she stated.

She further emphasized that leaders at all levels will continue to advocate for clean cooking solutions by actively participating in awareness campaigns.

In particular, female Members of Parliament will engage with communities through special programs aimed at educating citizens in their constituencies.

The Deputy Minister also highlighted the environmental benefits of clean cooking energy, noting that its widespread use will contribute to forest conservation, which in turn supports reliable rainfall patterns.

Additionally, she pointed out that shifting to clean cooking energy will help prevent health issues associated with traditional fuels, such as respiratory complications and lung diseases.
