Muleba Woman Delivers Quadruplets at Rubya Hospital, Calls for Community Support

By Mutayoba Arbogast

Muleba: A 26-year-old woman, Alistidia Kanyamoza, a resident of Kibanga Ward in Muleba District, Kagera Region, has made headlines after giving birth to quadruplets—four healthy baby girls—at Rubya Designated Hospital in Muleba. The delivery, which took place on August 29, was performed via cesarean section, and both the mother and her newborns are reported to be in good condition.

Dr. Robert Malinzi, the attending physician, confirmed that Alistidia is still under medical care at the hospital, where she continues to receive necessary postnatal services. He emphasized the importance of early prenatal visits, urging expectant mothers to seek medical attention well before their due dates to ensure the health of both the mother and the unborn child, as in Alistidia's case.

Dr. Malinzi also appealed to the public, including individual Samaritans, non-governmental organizations, religious groups, and the government, to extend a helping hand to Alistidia as she navigates the challenges of caring for her four newborns.

The situation, however, has exposed gaps in local social services. When contacted, Kagera Regional Social Welfare Officer Rebecca Gwambasa expressed concern about the lack of a budget to support such cases. She indicated that her office might have to rely on external assistance from kind-hearted individuals and organizations.

Meanwhile, Kagera Regional Medical Officer Samwel Laizer redirected responsibility back to the social welfare department, highlighting the bureaucratic challenges in addressing such urgent needs.

Elton Isaya, the Councillor of Kibanga Ward, expressed joy over the news of the quadruplets, describing it as a blessing for the ward. He promised that his office would look into ways to assist the family and stated that he was on his way to visit Alistidia at the hospital.

During a brief conversation at the hospital, Alistidia expressed her gratitude to the medical staff at Rubya Designated Hospital for their excellent care, which ensured a safe delivery. She noted that this was her fourth pregnancy, making her multiparous, and she was relieved that everything had gone smoothly.

As of now, efforts to reach Alistidia’s husband for comment have been unsuccessful, leaving questions about how the family will manage the responsibilities of raising four newborns unanswered. The community's response to this rare occurrence will likely be crucial in supporting the young family during this challenging but joyful time.
