Tanzania’s rugby landscape has received a notable international boost following an exhibition match between the Tanzanian national rugby team and the Tritons Rugby Club, a veteran team from the United Kingdom.

This international friendly served as a strategic effort to strengthen diplomatic and sports relations between Tanzania and the UK, with rugby emerging as a key link.

Speaking about the significance of the match, the President of the Tanzania Rugby Union, Mr. Joseph Jacob, remarked that it was a valuable opportunity to inspire the national team and enhance its competitive edge on the international stage.

“We are delighted with this match, which has come at an opportune time. It motivates us to continue building a formidable national squad capable of representing Tanzania internationally,” Jacob commented.

Tony Dunkerley, a player from the Tritons Rugby Club, praised the skill and athleticism displayed by the Tanzanian team, acknowledging that his team struggled to match Tanzania’s intensity.

“Although the score wasn’t in our favor, we truly enjoyed the game. Tanzania displayed excellent skills, speed, and a strong competitive drive. They were impressive, and they outperformed us,” Dunkerley reflected.

The game concluded with Tanzania emerging victorious, securing a 38-20 win over the Tritons.
