Dar es Salaam – Maybelline New York has made a bold entrance into the Tanzanian market, unveiling an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming women's economic opportunities through professional makeup training and job creation.

As part of this groundbreaking program, 1,000 women will receive intensive training in makeup artistry over the next three months, equipping them with the skills needed to build careers in the beauty industry.

Speaking at the launch event at Mlimani City Mall, Victoria Karanja, General Manager of the Consumer Products Division at Maybelline New York, emphasized that this initiative is about more than just cosmetics.

“We are here to drive economic transformation for women and girls by fostering confidence, creativity, and self-expression,” she said. “By equipping women with valuable skills and making beauty more accessible, we are creating a pathway to a brighter future.”

The training program is designed to uplift women from diverse backgrounds, including college students, street-involved girls, single mothers, and widows.

Participants will gain expertise in advanced makeup techniques, business management, and product knowledge, preparing them for careers as professional makeup artists, entrepreneurs, or beauty consultants.

Maybelline’s entry into Tanzania coincides with International Women’s Day, reinforcing its commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. The initiative also includes plans to establish 10 new kiosks across Dar es Salaam and other key locations, ensuring access to high-quality, affordable cosmetics while generating significant employment opportunities.

“The Tanzanian makeup industry has immense potential,” Ms. Karanja noted. “By offering professional-grade products at accessible price points, we are making beauty more inclusive and driving the expansion of the entire industry. We want to empower consumers to achieve high-quality results without financial barriers.”

The training sessions will be led by experienced local and international makeup artists, ensuring participants receive world-class instruction.

The program is expected to have a lasting economic impact, with graduates securing employment in salons, retail stores, and the entertainment industry, as well as launching independent businesses. Additionally, the increased economic activity is set to contribute to national revenue through taxes and levies.

“This initiative is about creating real, lasting change,” Ms. Karanja concluded. “By empowering women to achieve financial independence, start their businesses, and thrive in the beauty industry, we are making a direct investment in the future of Tanzania.”
