Ngorongoro tourism grows under President Samia – Commissioner doriye

By Hamis Dambaya, Dodoma

The Commissioner of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), Dr. Elirehema Doriye, has said that the authority has achieved its goals of increasing tourist numbers and revenue for four years in a row.

He credited this success to the efforts of the Sixth Phase Government, led by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the promotion of tourism through the film Tanzania: The Royal Tour.

Speaking to journalists in Dodoma on Monday, March 10, 2025, Dr. Doriye said that since the 2021/2022 financial year, there has been a steady increase in tourists and revenue.

By February of this financial year, 830,295 tourists had visited Ngorongoro, generating TZS 212 billion.

"We expect to collect TZS 230 billion by the end of this financial year. So far, we have reached 92% of our target. This shows how much Tanzania: The Royal Tour, led by President Dr. Samia, has helped increase tourism," said Dr. Doriye.

Dr. Doriye also said that, following the President’s efforts to promote tourism, the NCAA, in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, will continue finding new ways to attract more visitors and increase revenue.

Regarding tourism infrastructure, he revealed that over the past four years, the government has allocated TZS 14.99 billion to improve roads, water supply, and purchase vehicles and equipment. These improvements have made services easier for tourists.

"Despite many government priorities, we always receive funds on time. This ensures that no service is disrupted.

We promise Tanzanians that we will continue to focus on conservation, tourism, and community development," he said.

On conservation and anti-poaching efforts, Dr. Doriye assured Tanzanians that the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is safe.

He explained that the authority has eliminated poaching by increasing the number of rangers and using modern technology to protect wildlife.

He also spoke about the government's efforts to help people relocate voluntarily from the conservation area to Msomera village and other areas for a better life.

He said the authority has completed 1,508 new houses, and once other necessary facilities are ready, more people will be relocated.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area has achieved great success under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership.

It has also gained international recognition, winning several awards, including being named Africa’s best tourist attraction in 2023/24.
