Azam FC secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Kengold in an exciting NBC Premier League match held today at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.
The match was a crucial one for both teams, with Azam looking to solidify their position at the top of the table, while Kengold aimed to escape relegation.
The first half saw both teams engage in a tense battle, with neither side able to break through in the opening minutes.
Kengold’s defense held firm as Azam’s attackers, led by Gibril Sillah and Yeison Fuentes, tried to find an opening.
However, it was Azam who struck first in the 28th minute. A well-executed attack saw Gibril Sillah finish off a precise cross, giving Azam the lead and putting them in control of the match.
Kengold, despite being under pressure, did not give up easily. They fought hard to find an equalizer, but Azam’s solid defense, led by Yahya Zaydi and Pascal Msindo, kept them at bay. The first half ended with Azam holding a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, both teams returned to the pitch with renewed determination. Kengold made some tactical adjustments, hoping to create scoring opportunities, but Azam remained dominant.
The home team doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Nassor Saadun found the back of the net with a powerful strike. This goal essentially sealed the fate of the match, as Kengold struggled to respond.
Kengold’s efforts to fight back were futile, and they were left to rue missed opportunities. Despite the efforts of goalkeeper Mussa Malika and midfielder Gradi Lassa, Azam’s resilience and clinical finishing ensured they walked away with all three points. The match ended 2-0, with Azam solidifying their standing in the league.
The result was a much-needed win for Azam as they continue their strong campaign, while Kengold now faces an uphill battle to avoid relegation.
