Watumishi Housing Investment (WHI) has announced a significant investment of
Sh18.6 billion to construct 101 house units in the Mikocheni Regent Estate area
of Dar es Salaam. This ambitious project, in collaboration with Chinese
construction giant Shandong Hi-Speed Group, is set to begin in August 2024 and
is expected to be completed within 18 months.
The development will feature
12-storey buildings offering affordable housing options for public servants.
WHI Executive Director Dr. Fred Msema highlighted that the units will be priced
10 to 40 percent lower than other similar properties in the Mikocheni area.
"We have already started selling the units and anticipate strong demand
from our target beneficiaries," Dr. Msema stated during the signing
ceremony.
The housing units, designed to
cater to various needs, start at Sh99 million for a one-bedroom unit, which
includes a living room, bedroom, toilet, store, kitchen, and balcony.
Three-bedroom units are priced at a minimum of Sh234 million, making them
accessible to a wide range of civil servants.
To date, WHI has developed 1,003
housing units across 19 regions in Tanzania. This new project is part of the
organization's broader plan for the 2024/2025 financial year, which includes
the development of an additional 218 units in Dodoma, Lindi, Morogoro, Singida,
Coast, and Ruvuma regions.
Shandong Hi-Speed Group's Director,
Li Manchao, expressed his gratitude for the partnership, committing to deliver
high-quality housing units on schedule. "We are honored to be chosen for
this project and are committed to providing top-standard construction to meet
the needs of Tanzanian public servants," Li said.
This initiative reflects WHI's
ongoing efforts to provide affordable and quality housing solutions, addressing
the growing demand for housing in urban areas and contributing to the
government's broader goals of improving living standards for its workforce.
