TMA issues five-day weather forecast: strong wind to hit Costal Regions.

By Alfred Zacharia.

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a five-day weather advisory, warning of potential disruptions due to strong winds and large waves along the coast. The advisory, released on August 23, 2024, predicts winds reaching speeds of 40 km/h and waves up to 2 meters high.

These conditions are expected to impact economic and marine activities in several coastal regions, including Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Pwani (including Mafia Isles), Lindi, and Mtwara, as well as Unguja and Pemba Isles.

According to the TMA, the likelihood and impact of these weather conditions are both rated as "medium."

The advisory statement notes that the strong winds and large waves could lead to disruptions in daily activities, particularly those involving the sea.

Businesses and residents in the affected areas are urged to take precautions and be prepared for potential interruptions.

"Strong winds and large waves can pose significant risks, especially for those involved in marine activities," the TMA stated in the forecast statement.

"We advise everyone in the affected regions to stay informed and take necessary safety measures," the weatherman added.

The advisory statement also highlights the importance of being prepared, with the TMA urging coastal communities to secure boats and other equipment that could be damaged by the rough seas.

Fishermen and those involved in maritime transport are particularly encouraged to exercise caution during this period.

In addition to the immediate impacts, the advisory suggests that the strong winds and waves could have longer-term effects on economic activities, particularly in the fishing and tourism industries.

The weatherman has emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of the situation and has encouraged local authorities to keep the public informed.

"Please be prepared and stay safe," the advisory statement concludes, underscoring the potential risks and the importance of caution in the days ahead.

In another development, TMA has provided a weather forecast for the next 24 hours, starting at 9:00 PM on 23rd August 2024.

“Most regions across the country will experience partly cloudy skies, with some areas like Mara, Kagera, Tanga, Unguja, and Pemba expecting light rain or thundershowers. Many other regions, including Arusha, Dodoma, and Mwanza, will have mostly sunny weather” a statement reads.

The TMA has issued a warning about strong winds and large waves, up to 2 meters high, expected along the Indian Ocean coast and parts of Lake Tanganyika. This will affect regions like Dar es Salaam, Tanga, and Pwani, among others, making the sea rough and potentially dangerous.

Temperatures will vary, with the coldest being 7°C in Mbeya and the warmest 31°C in Kigoma.

Sunrise and sunset times are also given for different cities. For Sunday, 25th August 2024, only slight changes in weather are expected.

The TMA advises people, especially those near the coast, to be cautious due to the rough sea conditions.
