Vice President Mpango urges better management of strategic minerals

By Alfred Zacharia

Dr. Philip Mpango, Vice President of Tanzania, has called on the Ministry of Minerals to manage strategic minerals effectively for the country's benefit.

Dr. Mpango made this call on August 22, 2024, in Mpwayungu, Chamwino District, Dodoma. He was wrapping up a four-day visit to the Dodoma Region.

"Tanzania has been blessed with valuable strategic minerals that are in high demand worldwide. Supervise these resources carefully. There are many opportunities in the mining sector, including construction materials and fertilizer production. Dodoma is rich in these minerals, and they must contribute to the development of the people of Dodoma and Tanzania as a whole," he said

Dr. Mpango also instructed the Ministry of Minerals to create a strong management plan for these resources. He emphasized that this plan should benefit the nation and future generations.

Minister of Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, responded by promising to follow through on Dr. Mpango's directives. He said the Ministry is finalizing a plan for the strategic management and extraction of these minerals. The goal is to boost the economy and develop the mining sector.

Minister Mavunde also instructed Resident Mining Officers (RMOs) to ensure proper oversight of mining areas so that the benefits of these resources are evident for the nation.
