Yanga downsize Kagera Sugar to claim essential league points

By Our Special Correspondent

Young Africans have launched their Premier League title defence positively after outclassing Kagera Sugar 2-0 at Kaitaba Stadium in Kagera on Thursday.

Maxi Nzengeli and substitute Clement Mzize scored in each half of the tough game to help their team escape the difficult artificial away turf unhurt.

Following the outcome, Yanga have bagged maximum three points as they focus to retain the championship for the 31st time.

On the other hand, it was a second successive defeat for Kagera Sugar after going down 1-0 at the same venue in their previous league assignment.

As such, they are yet to digest a success this season and have so far dropped six points from two home encounters they have played.

Meanwhile, shoulder to shoulder action in the league will be momentarily paused to pave way for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers whereby national teams will engage in two back to back qualifying games.

As such, Premier League showdown will resume on September 11th with two mouth-watering matches to continue the chase of maximum points.

In an early match, Tabora United will host Kagera Sugar at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora while later, Fountain Gate will face new comers KenGold with both sides chasing for their first win of the campaign.
