The economic prospects for youths in Mutukula Ward, Missenyi District, are set to receive a significant boost with the construction of a new building valued at over Sh 55 million. This development, spearheaded by the Missenyi District Council, is anticipated to enhance local economic activities and support entrepreneurial ambitions.

This week, the Finance, Administration, and Planning Committee conducted a site visit to assess the progress of the project. The committee expressed satisfaction with the transparency and accountability observed, underscoring the value for money invested.

The Missenyi District Council Vice Chairperson Willy Mutayoba, applauded the project, noting that if the building is utilised effectively to unite and empower local youths, it could substantially improve their livelihoods.

Engineer Winston Wilbard confirmed that the construction is on track to be completed before the arrival of the Uhuru Torch Race, scheduled for the end of September. The building adheres to high construction standards, ensuring its durability and suitability for its intended purposes.

Saraphina Rwegasira, Acting District Executive Director, highlighted that the building is designed to offer training in various fields, aiming to equip young people with the skills needed to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams and contribute to community development.

The new facility holds particular promise for the Missenyi Standard Chalk Youth Group, which produces and sells dustless chalk. The group anticipates that the new building’s ample space will significantly enhance its production capabilities, allowing for better drying conditions and operational efficiency.

Laurentia Revocatus, the group secretary, revealed plans to secure a substantial loan to further expand their business, confident that the improved environment will foster growth.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the local government to transform Mutukula into a thriving hub of economic activity and development, mirroring the success seen in the neighboring Ugandan town of Mutukula. The investment reflects a commitment to fostering local entrepreneurship and ensuring that the youth in Missenyi District are equipped to drive their economic advancement.

As this project progresses, it will be closely monitored to ensure it meets its objectives and delivers tangible benefits to the community. The completion of the building promises to be a pivotal moment in the region’s development, providing a foundation for future growth and prosperity.
