US Ambassador lauds Tanzania’s ICT for driving social and economic development

Dar es Salaam-The U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania, Dr. Michael Battle, September 20, 2024 – commended Tanzania for its innovative use of information and communication technology (ICT) to advance social and economic progress. 

Speaking at the announcement of the top winners in the US-Tanzania Tech Challenge, Dr. Battle emphasized the growing importance of ICT in today's interconnected world, encouraging innovators to leverage their skills for broader national benefit. 

“This is the possibility in front of you, a dream I challenge you to pursue. Don’t settle for small dreams. If you have small dreams, find someone with big dreams to motivate you, and together you can change the world,” he urged.

The Tech Challenge, which featured over 100 participants, saw Jamii Forum claim the top spot, receiving $100,000 for their innovative project. Smart Foundry secured second place with $80,000, while LaunchPad Tanzania came in third with $70,000. 

Dr. Gerald Kafuku, Manager of Innovation and Technology, praised the government’s increased investment in ICT, noting that partnerships with organizations like Costech are helping young innovators drive change across various sectors.

Tanzania’s commitment to ICT development has positioned the country as a regional leader in technology adoption, with significant investments aimed at unlocking economic opportunities and empowering local innovators to solve critical challenges.
