Dar es Salaam, the Minister of Health, Jenista Mhagama (pictured right) yesterday October 17, 2024, held discussions with the leadership of the Tanzania Nurses and Midwives Association (TANNA) to review the implementation of the nurses' agenda, outlined during TANNA's annual meeting on May 12, 2024. The talks centered on improving service quality for citizens by addressing key issues affecting nurses and midwives across the country.
During the meeting, Mhagama commended the hard work and dedication of nurses and midwives, acknowledging their vital role in the health sector. She emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring that nurses and midwives receive the same opportunities for promotion as other professionals in the public service.
“The government, through the Ministry of Health, is focused on addressing the challenges faced by nurses and midwives. We recognize their contribution to healthcare and are dedicated to creating a supportive environment for them to thrive,” Mhagama said. She urged nurses and midwives to continue their service with integrity, adhering to the principles and ethics of their profession.
TANNA President Alexender Baluhya expressed confidence in the government's ability to address the concerns of healthcare workers under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan. He reiterated the association's belief that the government would take timely action to resolve these challenges, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of nursing services.
Baluhya also highlighted the significance of the meeting with the Minister, explaining that it was aimed at following up on key issues discussed at the annual TANNA meeting held in Tanga Region. Central to these discussions is the issue of promotion for nurses and midwives.
The meeting marks a key step in strengthening the collaboration between the government and TANNA to enhance the working conditions and professional growth of nurses and midwives across Tanzania.
