Airtel Tanzania has officially launched a new mobile ticketing service in partnership with the Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC), marking a major milestone in providing convenient travel solutions for passengers. The service was inaugurated by the Director General of TRC, Masanja Kadogosa, at the newly opened Airtel customer service center located at the SGR station in the City Centre.
During the launch event, Kadogosa emphasized the importance of proximity to services for travelers, noting that the mobile ticketing solution significantly simplifies the process for those using the new SGR train. "Partnering with a major player like Airtel enables both companies to prioritize customer convenience by facilitating fast and accessible services. With mobile banking for ticket purchases, efficiency is enhanced, and this store is a great testament to this collaboration," said Kadogosa.
The launch was attended by various officials, Airtel staff, and customers, including regular train passengers, who were eager to embrace the new digital solution for buying train tickets.
Airtel Tanzania’s new service center is the company’s 44th outlet nationwide. According to Adriana Miyamba, the Director of Customer Services at Airtel Tanzania, the station will cater to a wide range of customers, including business travelers, by providing seamless access to both mobile network services and financial transactions. "This is a significant achievement for us as we expand our services to customers on the go, ensuring they have all their needs met in one location," said Miyamba.
The center also offers a VIP Lounge designed for high-priority customers, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience for passengers who require specialized services. The facility is built with top-tier security to guarantee the safety of customers as they conduct financial transactions, whether large or small.
In a recent report by the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), Airtel was recognized as the leading choice for voice services in the country, with the government holding a 49% share in the company, highlighting its importance as a national interest under the Office of the Treasurer Registrar.
The opening of this new customer service center also marked the debut of Airtel’s newly appointed CEO, Mr. Charles Kamoto, who previously served as the CEO of Airtel Malawi. Kamoto expressed his enthusiasm for the future of Airtel Tanzania, underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing customer experience and expanding its reach across the country.
This partnership between Airtel and TRC is seen as a strategic move to cater to the growing demand for efficient and modern transport services in Tanzania, as more passengers turn to mobile technology for convenience.
