On October 31, 2024, the Embassy of Japan, in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania, officially handed over a newly built Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) building at Sumve Designated District Hospital in Kwimba District, Mwanza Region.
Funded by Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP), the USD 89,755 (approximately Tsh 227 million) grant aims to improve healthcare access for mothers and children in the region, with the facility expected to serve around 20,000 people annually.
The handing-over ceremony gathered distinguished guests, including H.E. Misawa Yasushi, Ambassador of Japan to Tanzania, and Ng’wilabuzu Ndatwa Ludigija, Acting Regional Commissioner for Mwanza and Kwimba District Commissioner. Other officials in attendance included Mr. Amon Mkoga, Kwimba District Executive Director, and Dr. Jesca Lebba, Regional Medical Officer of Mwanza.
This initiative marks yet another milestone in Japan’s long-standing support for local communities in Tanzania through GGHSP.
Since 1989, Japan has worked alongside Tanzania in various areas, including healthcare, education, and water supply, focusing on projects that address immediate community needs and promote human security.
