TACTIC projects to transform business environment in Tanzania

By Charles Mkoka

The Deputy Minister of State in the President's Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Ms. Zainabu Katimba, has announced that the completion of Tanzania Cities Transformational Infrastructure Commitments (TACTIC) projects in the Kigoma Region is expected to significantly enhance the local economy and improve the business environment across the country.

Hon. Katimba made the announcement on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Mwanga Center Grounds in Kigoma Ujiji during a ceremony to sign construction contracts for two key markets in Kigoma Municipal Council: the Mwanga Main Market and the Katonga Fish Market.

The markets are part of the larger TACTIC project led by PO-RALG, with an investment of over TZS 2.9 trillion (approximately USD 1.108 billion) for similar initiatives in various regions of Tanzania.

Representing the Minister of State in the President's Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, Mohamed Mchengerwa, Katimba highlighted that these projects are expected to enhance the revenue-generating capacity of local councils through infrastructural improvements.

This includes the construction of transport facilities, business stalls, shops, and other essential social services, all of which are scheduled for completion within a 12-month period.

Hon. Katimba also emphasized the need for accountability and efficiency among contractors and stakeholders involved in these projects.

She urged them to adhere to timelines and ensure high construction standards, enabling communities to benefit from the projects as soon as possible.

She further encouraged citizens to participate actively in the upcoming local government elections on November 27, 2024.

"It is essential to elect leaders capable of overseeing the TACTIC projects in their respective areas, which span over 40 urban councils, cities, and municipalities across mainland Tanzania," she stated.

The TACTIC initiative, part of a broader strategy by PO-RALG, aims to revitalize business infrastructures in Tanzania’s urban areas, thus fostering an environment conducive to economic growth and improved public services for all Tanzanians.
