The 'BQ Open 2024 Tennis Tournament final matches will be played today (December 1) at the Gymkhana courts in Dar es Salaam, where the champions will be determined.

The tournament, which began yesterday, has brought together young athletes and players with disabilities in a two-day event aimed at promoting inclusivity and competition.

Winners from the top three positions will be awarded cash prizes, medals, and trophies for their achievements.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, Rajab Borry, Vice President of the Tanzania Tennis Association (TTA), encouraged young players to give their all, noting that strong performances could lead to national team call-ups and international opportunities.

“I urge players to work hard and aim high. We want to see them excel globally, just like Rehema and others who have represented us well,” Borry said.

He highlighted the importance of such tournaments in nurturing talent for the national teams.

“These events help us identify and prepare future stars for international competitions,” he added.

John Bura, a representative from BQ Construction, the tournament's main sponsor, emphasized their commitment to developing young talent and promoting tennis in Tanzania.

“We’ve contributed TZS 10 million to support this tournament, along with other forms of sponsorship,” Bura explained.

The tournament has attracted 150 participants from DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Zanzibar, and mainland Tanzania, showcasing regional talent and fostering competitive growth in the sport.
