Reflections on 2024 and aspirations for 2025

As 2024 came to a close, President Samia Suluhu Hassan addressed the nation, reflecting on Tanzania's achievements and outlining aspirations for a prosperous 2025. 

Her speech emphasized unity, diplomacy, and strategic development as key drivers for the country's growth.

The President highlighted the pivotal role of diplomacy in safeguarding citizens' rights, boosting security, and creating economic opportunities. “Diplomacy in our country has grown stronger, bringing great benefits in the international sphere,” she said.

A notable milestone was Tanzania’s participation in the G-20 meeting, where global efforts to advance clean energy and agricultural investments were supported. These initiatives align with Tanzania’s goals of eradicating hunger and poverty.

Tanzania’s growing influence was also evident in the election of Dr. Faustine Ndungulile as the African Regional Director of the World Health Organization.

 Although his untimely passing prevented him from assuming office, the President urged the nation to honour his legacy and pray for his peace.

Prsident Samia underscored the impact of her visits to 16 countries, particularly her trip to the Republic of Korea, which secured $2.5 billion in concessional funds. 

These funds will support several transformative projects, including: a  modern railway training centre, an aviation training college, the Nyakanazi electricity distribution centre, a mining centre, and modern jewellery laboratories.

Additional projects under review include upgrading Muhimbili National Hospital, constructing an industrial complex in Bagamoyo, and purchasing passenger and cargo carriages for the Mwanza-Isaka railway section.

In Zanzibar, the funds will support road construction, a state-of-the-art film studio, an entertainment centre for youth employment, and the construction of Binguni Hospital and a health training centre.

The President celebrated strengthened diplomatic ties with China, which have opened lucrative markets for Tanzanian products like cassava, soybeans, seafood, honey, sunflower seeds, and peppers. 

She encouraged farmers and the private sector to capitalize on these opportunities.

Additionally, an agreement between Tanzania, China, and Zambia to revive the Tazara railway promises to enhance passenger and cargo transportation across the region.

Concluding her address, President Samia called on Tanzanians to embrace these opportunities and work collectively to ensure a prosperous 2025.
