Dr. Yonazi chairs meeting on private hospital proposal for Mtumba Government City

By Alfred Zacharia

On March 3, 2025, Permanet Secretary Prime Minister's Office (Coordination, Parliamentary Affairs and Policy) Dr. Jim Yonazi chaired a significant online meeting to deliberate on a proposal from Istogen, a South African company, regarding the construction of a private hospital in Mtumba Government City.

This initiative is a pivotal part of the ongoing efforts to transform Mtumba into a modern government city with comprehensive infrastructure that supports both the local community and government officials.

The virtual meeting brought together several key stakeholders, including Mr. Anele Nene, the Chief Executive Officer of Istogen Investments Holdings, who presented the proposal on behalf of the company.

His participation underscored the strong international collaboration driving the project, particularly in the healthcare sector.

Other notable attendees included Mr. Condrad Millinga, the Director of Economic Empowerment and Private Sector Development at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Mr. Amani Tenga, Mr. Omary Hassan, and Mr. Mussa Maghibi, all of whom contributed valuable insights to the discussions.

The primary focus of the proposal is the establishment of a state-of-the-art private hospital designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of the Mtumba region.

With Mtumba emerging as a major government hub, the hospital would not only serve the healthcare needs of civil servants but also provide essential services to the wider community.

The proposed facility aims to bring cutting-edge medical technology, specialized care, and modern healthcare infrastructure to the region, addressing a critical gap in health services.

During the meeting, Dr. Yonazi highlighted the significance of such initiatives in supporting the government’s broader vision of improving healthcare access and services across Tanzania.

He emphasized that public-private partnerships play a crucial role in accelerating infrastructure development, especially in sectors like healthcare where quality services are essential for national progress.

Dr. Yonazi also expressed optimism that the hospital would contribute to job creation, capacity building, and increased healthcare accessibility, thus benefiting the local community and the nation as a whole.

The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to assess the feasibility of the proposal, address potential challenges, and ensure that the project aligns with the government’s long-term development goals for Mtumba.

Discussions also focused on ensuring that the hospital would offer inclusive and equitable services, supporting Tanzania’s ongoing healthcare reforms and development objectives.

As the meeting concluded, participants expressed a shared commitment to advancing the project and finalizing its details.

There was a strong sense of collaboration among the stakeholders, with everyone committed to ensuring the timely and successful completion of the hospital.

This partnership between the Tanzanian government and Istogen represents a significant milestone in the country's efforts to strengthen its healthcare system and promote sustainable development in the Mtumba region, ultimately improving the well-being of its people.
