Deputy Minister for Works, Eng. Godfrey Kasekenya, has called on the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) to establish a clear strategy that guarantees the timely completion of road and bridge construction projects across the country.

Speaking in Morogoro while opening the 20th TANROADS Workers’ Council meeting, Eng. Kasekenya emphasized the importance of efficiency, warning that project delays lead to unnecessary cost escalations.

"Projects must be completed on time to avoid additional costs associated with extensions. This will ensure maximum benefits for both the government and the public," he stated.

The Deputy Minister urged TANROADS to enforce strict contractor monitoring, ensuring accountability and efficiency in project execution.

"You must have a specific strategy to oversee contractors so they complete projects on time. Contractors who fail to deliver quality work within the agreed timeframe should not be considered for new contracts," he said.

Eng. Kasekenya further stressed the importance of building employee capacity through specialized training, enabling them to adopt innovative solutions and keep pace with advancements in artificial intelligence and digital technology.

"Management must invest in training programs to equip employees with the necessary skills to adapt to technological changes and enhance efficiency in project implementation," he advised.

Additionally, he highlighted the need for public education on weighbridge operations to minimize complaints and enhance transparency.

"TANROADS should prioritize educating both employees and the public about the purpose and functionality of weighbridges. A well-informed society will reduce unnecessary grievances and foster mutual understanding," he remarked.

The Chairman of the TANROADS Workers’ Council, Eng. Mohamed Besta, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to delivering high-quality road and bridge projects while collaborating closely with contractors to ensure efficiency.

"We are dedicated to ensuring all projects are completed on schedule and meet the required standards. Effective supervision is key to achieving this goal," he said.

Regarding weighbridge management, Eng. Besta assured stakeholders that the agency would enforce proper monitoring without hindering the growth of the transport and logistics sector.

"We will make sure our weighbridge operations are streamlined and efficient, preventing them from becoming obstacles while maintaining the integrity of our road infrastructure," he added.

Morogoro District Commissioner, Mr. Musa Kilakala, expressed appreciation to the government for investing in critical infrastructure projects, including the 78-kilometer Bigwa-Kisaki Road and the Ngerengere-Ubena Zomozi Road. He noted that these projects would significantly boost the regional economy.

"These roads will open up economic opportunities for Morogoro and beyond. We commend TANROADS for its dedication and hard work," he stated.

On behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Mrisho Mrisho, urged TANROADS employees to maintain professionalism and uphold ethical standards in service delivery.

"Employees must demonstrate integrity, adhere to government guidelines, and provide quality services without favoritism. Additionally, prioritizing personal health through regular exercise and disease prevention is essential," he said.

The 20th TANROADS Workers’ Council meeting is expected to discuss and approve budget proposals for the 2025/26 financial year, along with other key operational strategies.
