Organizers have been urged to prioritize sponsorship efforts by establishing a women's league, particularly in the sport of netball, to help nurture emerging talents.
The call was made yesterday by Ally Bananga, CCM’s Regional Secretary for Ideology and Publicity in Dar es Salaam, during the closing ceremony of the Samia Cup tournament in Kigamboni District, where Dream Team emerged as the tournament champions.
Bananga applauded Twende Pamoja and Mama Sports Promotion for organizing the tournament, which has played a significant role in discovering new talents and honoring President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for her achievements in sports development during her four years in office.
"I want to encourage sponsors to continue supporting such efforts. You are helping to uncover talents, and now it’s time to invest in women’s teams, especially in netball. There are over 70 teams ready to benefit from such support," he said.
Mohamed Hajji, Director of Twende Pamoja and Mama Sports Promotion, stated that the tournament will be ongoing, not just in Dar es Salaam but also in other regions.
He announced that the tournament will now move to Zanzibar under the new name “Dr. Hussein Mwinyi & Samia Cup 2025.”
"We have received clear directives, and once we return from Zanzibar, the women’s league will kick off immediately," Hajji said.
"I’m pleased to see such a large crowd turning out to witness these games. I promise this tournament will continue. Our aim is not for personal gain, but to support Dr. Samia through practical investment in the sports sector," he added.
Meanwhile, sponsor Dotto Togabe affirmed their commitment to continue promoting sports and supporting the establishment of the women’s league.
