The Government of Tanzania is strengthening its partnership with the Government of Germany to empower women through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), with the aim of enhancing their skills, fostering self-reliance, and promoting gender equality.

This was revealed on April 16, 2025, in Dodoma by Advocate Amon Mpanju, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, during a working session with representatives from the German Embassy.

The session focused on discussing collaboration on a project designed to encourage women’s engagement with ICT for their personal and professional development.

Advocate Mpanju emphasized that the Government of Tanzania, under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Hassan Suluhu, is committed to ensuring that women have equal access to digital platforms and opportunities, fostering gender equality and empowering women to actively participate in the technological space.

“The goal is to ensure that women are equipped with the necessary digital tools and skills to not only engage in the ICT sector but also to harness these tools to address societal challenges,” said Mpanju.

He further noted that the Ministry is in the process of finalizing an agreement with the Government of Germany to support the empowerment of women and girls in technological innovation.

This will include the integration of artificial intelligence to help solve various socio-economic challenges.

Julia Kronberg, a representative from the German Embassy, highlighted that the project aims to build and strengthen digital skills among women, particularly in using digital technologies to tackle issues such as gender inequality and human rights violations.

Kronberg added that the initiative will involve partnerships with civil society organizations, universities, and women-led businesses, where participants will receive training in the production of eco-friendly products.

These products will include items made from leather and other sustainable materials, alongside services such as printing using environmentally conscious technologies.

“This project is about equipping women with the knowledge and tools to succeed in the digital age while promoting sustainability and innovation,” Kronberg said.

The initiative reflects both governments’ commitment to fostering inclusive development, where women are not only beneficiaries but also key drivers of digital and technological progress.
