The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), led the Ministry’s Management in a meeting with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence, and Security (NUU), held in Dodoma to discuss various issues concerning the Ministry’s operations and Tanzania’s diplomatic cooperation.
In his presentation, Kombo outlined the Ministry’s key activities, emphasizing the importance of Tanzania's engagement with regional organizations.
He specifically mentioned the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC), saying, "Tanzania continues to play a pivotal role in regional integration, contributing significantly to the success of both SADC and EAC."
He further detailed the progress in implementing Parliamentary resolutions related to foreign affairs and economic diplomacy, adding, "We have made notable strides in executing the mandates provided by Parliament, particularly in strengthening our economic diplomacy initiatives."
Kombo also highlighted the government’s achievements under the Foreign Policy, noting the growing international influence of Tanzania.
"Our efforts have led to stronger international relationships and increased diplomatic influence, positioning Tanzania as a key player in global discussions," he explained.
The Minister also shared the steps being taken to address the challenges currently facing the Ministry, stating, "We are actively working to address internal and external challenges, ensuring our Ministry remains efficient and effective in serving the nation’s interests."
The Parliamentary Committee responded positively, commending the Ministry for its dedication and hard work.
"We are pleased with the Ministry's progress," the Committee members stated. "However, we urge the Ministry to take deliberate steps to make further improvements, ensuring that Tanzania maximizes the potential benefits from regional and international cooperation."
In the meeting, Kombo was accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Cosato Chumi, along with the Ministry’s Permanent Secretaries, Ambassador Samwel Shelukindo and Ambassador Stephen Mbundi.
