President Samia announces strategic appointments to national institutions

Dodoma, April 29, 2025—President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has appointed new leaders to head several key national institutions, in a continued effort to strengthen governance, promote development, and address emerging national priorities.

 The announcement was made today by the Acting Chief Government Spokesperson, Dr. Moses Kusiluka.

The appointments, which reflect the President’s commitment to merit-based leadership and institutional excellence, are as follows:

Arch. Dr. Fatma Kassim Mohamed has been reappointed as Chairperson of the National Construction Council (NCC) for a second term.

Her reappointment follows a successful tenure in which she led efforts to enhance professional standards, regulatory frameworks, and capacity development within Tanzania’s construction industry. Her leadership is expected to further support the government’s infrastructure agenda and Vision 2025 goals.

Dr. Jilly Elibariki Maleko has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the National Climate Change Steering Committee (NCCSC), succeeding Ambassador Begum Karim Taj, whose term has ended. 

Dr. Maleko brings a wealth of experience in environmental policy and climate advocacy. Her appointment comes at a crucial time, as Tanzania ramps up its climate resilience strategies and aligns with global efforts under the Paris Agreement.

Prof. Eliakimu Mkonondo Zahabu will now serve as Chairperson of the National Carbon Monitoring Center (NCMC)

A distinguished academic and environmental researcher, Prof. Zahabu is widely recognized for his work in forest carbon monitoring and climate science. 

His leadership is expected to strengthen the NCMC’s role in tracking carbon emissions and removals an essential component of Tanzania’s participation in international climate financing and reporting mechanisms.

Mr. Lucas Abrahamani Mwino has been named Chairperson of the Community Development Trust Fund (CDTF), taking over from Dr. John Kedi Mduma. The CDTF plays a pivotal role in supporting grassroots development and community-driven initiatives across the country.

 Mr. Mwino is tasked with enhancing the Fund’s impact in reducing poverty and fostering inclusive growth, particularly in underserved areas.

These appointments signify the government’s proactive approach to equipping key institutions with visionary and results-oriented leadership.

 By selecting individuals with proven expertise and a deep understanding of national priorities, President Samia continues to demonstrate her dedication to sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and social inclusion.

The Office of the President extended its congratulations to the newly appointed leaders and expressed confidence in their ability to deliver on their respective mandates and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
