The Tanzania Fellowship of Evangelical Students (TAFES) has launched a fundraising campaign to raise TSh 450 million for the renovation and enhancement of its Community Empowerment and Wellness Centre in Boko, Dar es Salaam.
The initiative comes ahead of the organization’s 35th National Anniversary, set to be commemorated on June 14 this year. Speaking about the campaign, Dr. Charles Sokile, Associate Leader and Representative from (OPM), said the upgraded centre will serve over 6,000 students with various empowerment programs.
“This facility will play a critical role in supporting students by offering services that address academic, emotional, and social challenges,” said Dr.
Sokile. “As we approach the 35th anniversary celebrations, we welcome all stakeholders individuals and organizations who care about the future of young people to join us in this noble cause.”
Over the past 35 years, TAFES has made a significant impact across Tanzania. Dr. Sokile noted that the fellowship has nurtured more than 2,000 ethical and community-minded leaders, created volunteering opportunities for graduates to gain experience, and initiated several youth-focused awareness campaigns.
TAFES has also extended its reach to vulnerable communities and held annual Easter and Christmas conferences that engage over 2,000 students across nine regions. The organization has established more than 10 professional peer groups to support career development.
“Our efforts now span 18 regions in Tanzania, involving over 90 higher learning institutions. We collaborate with 1,090 active partners and more than 12 companies and organizations,” Dr. Sokile added.
Rodney Alananga, Vice Chairperson of the TAFES Alumni Association, encouraged fellow alumni to use the skills and knowledge they acquired through TAFES to uplift young people, particularly those who have not had the opportunity to pursue formal education.
“We often meet talented young people who have the drive to succeed but lack support. As alumni, we have a responsibility to help them unlock their potential,” said Alananga.
National Student Representative Iris Dionis echoed the call for support, urging students to contribute whatever they can to the campaign.
“This is our moment to give back. TAFES has empowered many of us, and now it’s our turn to ensure others benefit from the same opportunities,” she said.
