The Regional Commissioner of Tanga, Ambassador Dr. Batilda Burian, has urged residents of the region to take advantage of a vital legal aid campaign set to take place across all local councils in Tanga.
This initiative is part of a national effort launched by President Samia, which has already reached 23 regions, helping over 2 million Tanzanians access legal assistance.
The campaign aims to resolve various disputes, including issues related to land rights, and empower citizens with knowledge about their legal rights.
In her remarks, Dr. Burian highlighted the significance of the campaign, stressing the importance of ensuring that every resident in Tanga benefits from the available legal aid.
"We encourage everyone to come forward and seek the support they need, whether it’s for personal legal matters, land disputes, or any other challenges requiring legal intervention," Dr. Burian said.
The campaign will officially kick off in Tanga on April 8, 2025, at Tangamano Grounds. Following the launch, the services will extend to all wards, villages, and streets within the region.
This comprehensive approach aims to bring legal assistance directly to the people, particularly in rural and underserved areas where access to legal resources is often limited.
"The primary objective of this campaign is to increase awareness about legal matters, human rights, and the importance of justice within the community," Dr. Burian explained.
"We want the public to not only know their rights but also understand how to defend them effectively."
Laurent Buliro, the Chief Investigations Officer from the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs, who also serves as the Campaign Coordinator for Tanga Region, elaborated on the logistics of the initiative.
"The campaign will involve various officers, including legal assistants, who will form dedicated teams in each Local Government Area," Buliro said.
These teams will provide free legal education, raise awareness on human rights, and address issues such as gender-based violence.
Buliro further revealed that a significant part of the campaign will focus on educating young people by visiting primary and secondary schools across the region.
"By reaching out to students, we aim to instill a strong understanding of human rights and the importance of gender equality from an early age," Buliro added.
This legal aid campaign is expected to make a substantial impact in Tanga, not only resolving legal disputes but also empowering individuals with the knowledge they need to protect their rights and promote justice within their communities.
The initiative is a step forward in making legal services more accessible and ensuring that every citizen, regardless of their background or location, has the opportunity to seek justice.
