In the heart of Muleba District, a wave of optimism is sweeping across the shores, as the government pledges bold steps to transform Tanzania’s ports and fishing landing sites to better serve its people.
Captain Mussa Mandia, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) on April 27, 2025, assured residents that strategies are firmly in place to upgrade all ports and boost services that are vital for local and national development.
“Our responsibility goes beyond regulation, it’s about ensuring safety, quality, and opportunity for every citizen who depends on these waters,” Captain Mandia said passionately during a visit to Magarini Port and Lwazi Landing Site in Kagera Region.
He stressed that while resources are being used wisely to implement key projects, the government remains committed to tackling pending gaps, urging communities to stay patient and focused on their livelihoods.
For the people of Lwazi, the visit brought a platform to voice long-standing challenges. Kikuku Ward Councillor Abdul Hassan pleaded for the construction of a docking jetty, noting that the absence of proper infrastructure has slowed transport services to the surrounding islands.
“We are hopeful. The presence of TASAC here means the government is listening, and together, solutions are within reach,” said Councillor Hassan. He rallied citizens to keep faith in President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s tireless efforts to improve lives across the country.
At Magarini Port, gratitude filled the air as the Chairperson of the local Transporters’ Association praised TASAC for providing vital safety training. "We feel more empowered and confident now, and it’s all because of the knowledge we received," he said.
From Muleba’s bustling waters to distant islands, the government’s commitment is building more than just infrastructure — it’s building trust, hope, and a brighter future for communities that depend on the strength of Tanzania’s blue economy.
