Iringa District Commissioner, Comrade Kheri James, has called on residents in villages across Kalenga Division to invest in their children's education, protect the environment, and adopt healthy eating habits within their households.
Speaking during his ongoing village-to-village tour aimed at inspecting development projects, mobilizing community participation, and addressing local concerns, Comrade James emphasized the critical role of education in shaping the future.
“The government has invested heavily in transforming the education sector to ensure every child has access to quality learning,” he said.
“It is now up to every parent to take this opportunity seriously and ensure their children are in school and learning.”he added
While visiting the wards of Kiwele, Ulanda, and Nzihi, Comrade James reminded community members that development begins with informed and healthy citizens.
He urged parents and guardians not only to send their children to school but also to support them academically and emotionally.
In addition to education, he highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship.“Protecting our environment is not just about planting trees it’s about preserving our future. Clean air, fertile soil, and water sources are all essential for our survival and the prosperity of our children,” he said.
Comrade James also addressed the need for improved family health through better nutrition. He encouraged households to include a variety of nutritious foods in their daily meals to build strong and resilient communities.
“Good health starts at the dinner table. We must ensure our families are eating foods that build the body, protect it from disease, and provide the energy needed to work and learn,” he noted.
As part of the tour, the District Commissioner took time to listen to residents’ concerns and respond to pressing issues affecting their communities.
“This tour is about hearing directly from you. Your voices matter. Together, we can find sustainable solutions to the challenges we face,” Comrade James told villagers during one of the community meetings.
The tour continues in other villages within the district as part of a broader initiative to enhance grassroots engagement and accelerate local development.
