Tanzania’s Minister of Health, Jenista Mhagama, has credited the country’s progress in reducing maternal and newborn mortality to strong collaboration between the Government and key development partners.
Speaking during a meeting with Mr. Tore Laerdal, Founder and Director of Laerdal Global Health one of Tanzania’s major partners in the health sector Minister Mhagama emphasized the impact of strategic partnerships in achieving health sector milestones.
“The Government of Tanzania remains firmly committed to improving the health and well-being of women, girls, and children. We are tackling persistent challenges by strengthening our health systems, in alignment with the World Health Organization’s guidelines,” she stated.
Minister Mhagama highlighted several initiatives introduced by the Government to improve healthcare delivery for women and girls. These include reforms in health financing, the rollout of universal health coverage, and enhancements in emergency referral systems such as the m-mama project.
“We are also conducting comprehensive reviews and follow-ups of maternal and neonatal deaths, enhancing the quality of care for women and newborns, and upgrading the skills of healthcare providers through targeted training and practical simulations,” she added.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen the collaboration between Laerdal Global Health and the Government of Tanzania, with a shared goal of further reducing preventable deaths and improving health outcomes across the country.
