The Tanzania Handball Association (TAHA) has confirmed that the national youth teams are fully prepared and eager to compete in the upcoming Africa Zone V Girls’ Championships for the Under-17 and Under-19 categories, scheduled to kick off on May 6 in Uganda.
The teams are currently in a residential training camp in Tanga Region as part of their final preparations. A delegation of 36 members is set to depart for Uganda on Sunday, April 4.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, TAHA Chairman Michael Chibawala expressed confidence in the teams’ readiness, highlighting their strong morale and commitment.
“Our preparations are progressing well. The players are highly motivated and focused. We used the Union Games to assess their performance, where they showcased their potential and secured second place,” said Chibawala.
He added that the team is now undergoing final drills as they await their travel date.
Chibawala emphasized that the ultimate goal is to qualify for the continental championships. In the previous edition, the Tanzanian girls’ team qualified and went on to finish third in Africa.
Countries expected to compete in this year’s Zone V Championship include Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, South Sudan, and host nation Uganda.
