LNG Project Talks Progressing, Says Minister

By Correspondent

Deputy Minister of Energy, Judith Kapinga, announced that the government is in ongoing talks with International Energy Companies (IECs) regarding the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) processing project.

"Once the negotiations are concluded, the project will advance to the next phase" she noted.

Kapinga made the remarks today, August 29, 2024, in Parliament in Dodoma while responding to a question from Nkasi North MP, Joseph Khenani. Khenani sought to know when the government would present the agreement, valued at over 70 trillion shillings, between Tanzania and gas investors for parliamentary discussion.

Kapinga emphasized that the LNG project is crucial for the country. She highlighted that these negotiations are laying the groundwork for taxes, royalties, and other economic benefits.

She reassured Parliament that the LNG project is a top government priority and that discussions are moving forward positively.

On the issue of joint purchasing of LPG gas to reduce prices, Kapinga noted that the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) is working to stabilize the gas market and ensure easy access to products.
