Azam searches new coach after Dabo's sacking

By Our Special Correspondent

The management of Azam FC says efforts to get a new coach are ongoing following the sacking of Senegalese trainer Youssouph Dabo.

A statement released on Tuesday through the club's verified Instagram account indicates that Dabo and his assistants he brought with at the club have been let go.

"As a club, we thank him for his integrity and a spirit of not giving up throughout his tenure at the club...we wish him all the best wherever he goes.

"While the management searches for a new coach, programs of the team will currently be under the tutelage of youth team coaches," reads part of the information.

However, Dabo's high achievement at the club was recorded last season when he steered them to the second place finish in the Premier League.

This feat enabled them to qualify for the CAF Champions League (CAF CL) slot but consequently were bundled out after an aggregate 2-1 defeat from Rwanda's side APR.

To make things worse, his first and last league match of the progressing season witnessed Azam sharing spoils against JKT Tanzania courtesy of a barren draw at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Meanwhile, speculations are hot that the Azam are in discussions with the incumbent Al Hilal coach Florent Ibenge to take over the coaching responsibilities of the club.
