President
Samia Suluhu Hassan has sacked Marco Ng'umbi from his position as Longido
District Commissioner after serving the position for one year and eight months.
The
announcement was made by the State House and signed by Acting Director of
Presidential Communications, Ms. Sharifa Nyanga without explaining the reasons
for Ng'umbi's dismissal.
Ng'umbi’s
removal, however, cames after a video surfaced in which he is seen discussing
the 2020 elections. In the video, Ng'umbi tells councilors that their election
victories were due to government influence, not their own efforts.
He claimed
that the government created conditions that allowed councilors to win, even
those who were elected unopposed. Ng'umbi also said that councilors have no
real control over their wards and need government support to win elections.
