Prioritizing community needs in development projects - Kapinga

By The Respondent Reporter

The Deputy Minister of Energy and National Youth Special Seats MP, Hon. Judith Kapinga, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring that citizens are actively involved in decision-making processes related to development in their local areas.

Kapinga stressed that leaders at all levels must ensure that decisions are aligned with plans and programs that reflect the actual needs, conditions, and priorities of the people.

She made these remarks on September 30, 2024, while inaugurating a training session on the use of the 2022 Population and Housing Census data for leaders, administrators, and stakeholders in Mbinga District.

Kapinga added that the government aims to empower citizens to take charge of their development by making informed decisions and monitoring project implementation using statistical data.

"The Population and Housing Census is conducted to gather fundamental statistics about people and their living conditions, which help in formulating policies and developing strategic plans aimed at boosting the country's economy and improving citizens' livelihoods," Kapinga stated.

She highlighted that the training would enable stakeholders to assess their district’s development by comparing key indicators at both the national and regional levels, thus facilitating Ruvuma Region's progress.

Kapinga further emphasized that the 2022 Census results serve as a crucial tool for the government and stakeholders to monitor and evaluate the implementation of national, regional, and global development plans, with the ultimate goal of fostering economic growth and reducing poverty.

She noted that these Census results, along with other statistical data, serve as a guide for making key decisions regarding the initiation of new projects, the enhancement and improvement of various public services, including education, healthcare, water supply, and other economic and infrastructure-related services.
