The Deputy Minister of Information, Communication, and Information Technology Maryprisca Mahundi (Pictured) has announced that the country is poised for significant changes in environmental conservation through the Clean Cooking Energy Strategy, spearheaded by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Speaking in Dodoma, Hon. Mahundi encouraged citizens to abandon the use of unsustainable energy sources and embrace modern cooking methods utilizing clean energy.

“When we talk about environmental conservation, we must acknowledge that approximately 469,000 hectares of forests are lost each year due to human activities, including the use of unsustainable cooking fuels like firewood and charcoal. By adopting clean cooking energy, we can protect our environment,” emphasized Hon. Mahundi.

She highlighted the environmental degradation resulting from unsustainable energy use and the adverse health effects on users, particularly respiratory issues caused by excessive smoke.

Moreover, she revealed that over 33,000 Tanzanians lose their lives each year due to the use of unsafe energy sources.

Hon. Mahundi further noted that clean cooking energy, such as gas and electricity, allows for the preparation of various foods, underscoring that clean cooking energy is not a luxury but essential for safeguarding both public health and the environment.
