The
Rural Energy Agency (Rea) has commenced an electrification project across 15
constituencies in the Kigoma Region, which will bring reliable electricity to 120
villages, facilitating economic activities and national development.
This
announcement was made on October 16, 2024, by Kigoma Regional Commissioner,
Hon. Thobias Andengenye, following a briefing from REA on the initiation of
these electrification efforts.
"I
commend REA for implementing this project to bring electricity to our villages.
Electricity is a catalyst for development in this region, as it is essential
for both economic and social activities," stated Hon. Andengenye.
He
urged Routeways Technologies Ltd, the contractor for the project, to ensure
timely completion as per their agreement.
Robert
Dulle, REA's Western Region Project Manager, confirmed that the contractor,
Routeways Technologies Ltd, is tasked with electrifying 15 villages in each constituency
within the region.
"This
contractor will execute the project for 14 billion Tanzanian shillings, fully
funded by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu
Hassan, to ensure the people of Kigoma have access to electricity," said
Mr. Dulle.
The
project commenced in August 2024 and is set to be completed within two years,
with an anticipated finish date in August 2026.
Furthermore,
the contractor has been instructed to adhere to the project timeline so that
the residents of Kigoma can benefit from this essential energy source.
John
Odhiambo, an engineer from Routeways Technologies Ltd, assured that the project
will be completed promptly to enable local communities to access this vital
energy resource. The contractor is currently in the initial stages of
finalizing procedures to kick off the project.
