Karagwe, Kagera – In a move aimed at empowering youth through economic opportunities, sixty motorcycles have been handed over to young members of the Union of Youth, Umoja wa Vijana Karagwe Saccos (UVIKASA).

The Sanya CC 150.8 model motorcycles, valued at over 151.3 million shillings, were provided as loans to boost their Bodaboda passenger transport businesses. The official handover took place on September 30, 2024, at the CCM grounds in Karagwe district, with Kagera Regional Commissioner Fatma Abubakari Mwassa presiding as the guest of honor.

Commissioner Mwassa encouraged the youth to utilize the opportunity to improve their livelihoods, stressing the importance of repaying the loans to ensure others also benefit. She also highlighted the significance of adhering to road safety regulations to protect themselves and their passengers.

As well, Mwassa advocated for youth to explore modern farming and livestock keeping, emphasizing its potential to bring long-term wealth. "I speak from experience as a farmer myself," she remarked, urging the youth not to rely solely on Bodaboda entrepreneurship.

Since its establishment in 2009, UVIKASA has successfully loaned over 2 billion shillings and distributed 1,872 motorcycles to its members under the leadership of Chairman Yahya Abdusalim Kateme.
