Kagera – Eight tarmac road projects spanning 5.2 kilometers and valued at 2.5 billion shillings were inspected by the Uhuru Torch race in the Kagera region. These roads, completed during the 2023/2024 fiscal year, serve eight district councils and were praised for their significant impact on improving transportation and access to essential services.

Speaking at the event, Tarura Kagera Regional Manager, Eng. Wilson Charles highlighted the importance of the newly paved roads in connecting schools, clinics, health centers, factories, and residential areas.

"These roads have drastically eased transportation challenges, allowing residents to access social services promptly," said Charles. He also noted how the new infrastructure has enhanced the development of towns and villages, with streetlights providing a boost to local businesses and increasing nighttime activity.

Charles further emphasized Tarura's commitment to overseeing contractors and ensuring quality work, leading to greater community benefits. Kagera region currently boasts a 6,403-kilometer road network under Tarura, of which 132.2 kilometers are tarmacked. Looking ahead, plans are underway to construct an additional 8 kilometers of tarmac roads in the 2024/2025 fiscal year.
