Dar es Salaam – In a strategic move to bolster its operations in Tanzania and across Africa, Airtel has appointed Charles Kamoto as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Airtel Tanzania. This leadership change is part of a broader strategy by Airtel Africa Group to reinforce its position as a premier telecommunications provider in Tanzania and to drive sustainable growth across the continent.
Airtel Africa Group CEO, Sunil Taldar, noted that Kamoto’s appointment aligns with Airtel Group's commitment to strengthening its market presence and ensuring service excellence for Tanzanian customers. Kamoto assumes the role from Dinesh Balsingh, who has been named CEO and Managing Director of Airtel Nigeria, effective November 1, 2024.
Balsingh, during his tenure as CEO of Airtel Tanzania since February 2022, played a pivotal role in advancing the company's market share through targeted marketing strategies, innovative products, and effective execution in a highly competitive environment. His leadership contributed significantly to Airtel Tanzania’s revenue growth and presence in the stock market.
Charles Kamoto brings 24 years of experience in telecommunications, with 17 of those in senior management roles. Kamoto joined Airtel Malawi as Chief Commercial Officer and subsequently rose to become CEO in 2016. His leadership drove Airtel Malawi's profitability, customer base expansion, and market share, notably with the successful launch of Airtel Money Malawi as a top financial inclusion platform. In 2020, Kamoto also played a key role in listing Airtel Malawi on the Malawi Stock Exchange, solidifying its footprint in the region.
With his extensive industry background, Kamoto is expected to lead Airtel Tanzania in its next growth phase, further enhancing Airtel’s impact in the Tanzanian telecommunications landscape.
