Bunazi,
Missenyi — Residents of
Missenyi District are being encouraged to seek medical consultations and care
from a team of visiting specialist doctors at Bunazi Health Centre from
November 4 to 10, 2024.
District
Medical Officer, Dr. Daniel Chochole, announced the week-long initiative,
noting that the expert medical team, known as the "Mama Samia
Doctors," will be providing a wide range of specialist services at regular
health center rates. Health insurance cards will also be accepted.
“I
urge residents to take full advantage of this opportunity to access specialist
care close to home,” Dr. Chochole stated. "This allows wananchi to avoid
the significant costs of traveling to larger hospitals, as these services are
now available locally."
The
visiting specialists include a pediatrician, obstetrician-gynecologist, general
surgeon, dentist, physician, and anesthesiologist. These experts will address a
broad spectrum of health concerns, including children’s health issues, maternal
and obstetric care, surgical procedures, dental and oral health, as well as
chronic internal conditions such as hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and
diabetes.
The
initiative, part of the Samia Suluhu Super Specialist Programme, aims to expand
access to quality healthcare across Tanzania. Kagera Regional Commissioner,
Hajat Fatma Mwassa, highlighted the program’s impact, noting that 57 specialist
doctors are currently providing affordable healthcare across the region’s
district councils.
The
program comes in response to Tanzania’s specialist doctor shortage and is
designed to provide residents with direct access to expert medical care in
their own communities.
