Motorists in Tanzania will pay less
for petrol and diesel in November 2024, thanks to a price reduction announced
by the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura). The price cuts relieve
drivers who have faced rising fuel costs.
In Dar es Salaam, the price of
petrol has dropped from 3,011 Tanzanian Shillings per liter in October to 2,943
Shillings in November. In Tanga, the price decreased from 3,016 Shillings to
2,948 Shillings per liter. Mtwara saw a slight reduction, from 3,016 Shillings
to 3,015 Shillings.
For diesel, the price in Dar es
Salaam has fallen from 2,846 Shillings to 2,844 Shillings per liter. Tanga’s
price went down from 2,859 Shillings to 2,855 Shillings. However, in Mtwara,
diesel prices increased slightly, from 2,862 Shillings to 2,916 Shillings per
liter.
Ewura’s Director-General, Dr. James A. Mwainyekule, said the price cuts were due to changes in global oil prices, fuel import costs, and exchange rates.
While global petrol prices went up by
1.56 percent since September 2024, diesel prices rose by 4.99 percent. Diesel
import costs increased by 14.48 percent, which could affect future fuel prices.
Ewura reminded fuel dealers to
follow the price limits set by the authority. They also urged fuel stations to
clearly display their prices to ensure transparency and fair competition.
The price reduction gives Tanzanian
drivers some relief from rising fuel costs, with Ewura aiming to maintain fair and
stable prices for consumers.
