Yanga’s victory sparks joy, ends losing streak

By Flora Mkoloma

Defending champions Yanga restored their pride with a commanding 2-0 win over Namungo in an NBC Tanzania Premier League match held at Majaliwa Stadium, Ruangwa, Lindi.

The victory comes as a much-needed relief after three consecutive losses: two in the NBC Premier League—1-0 against Azam and 3-1 to Tabora United—and a 2-0 defeat to Sudan’s Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League.

Both teams struggled to break the deadlock in the first half, which ended goalless despite several attempts. However, Yanga turned up the intensity in the second half, with Kennedy Musonda breaking the ice in the 50th minute, slotting in a well-taken goal to give Yanga the lead.

Pacome Zouzoua sealed the win in the 67th minute, capitalizing on a precise assist from Clautous Chama to make it 2-0. The scoreline remained unchanged, securing Yanga's first victory under their new German head coach, Saed Ramović, who recently took over from Miguel Gamondi.

The win propels Yanga to second place in the league standings with 27 points, just one point behind league leaders Simba, who have 28 points. Both teams have played 11 matches. Namungo, meanwhile, remains in 12th place with nine points.

In another match, Mashujaa and Kagera Sugar settled for a 1-1 draw at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma, as neither side could find a winner in the closely contested game.

This crucial win brings Yanga’s hopes of reclaiming the top spot back to life, reigniting the confidence of both the team and their fans.
