Eng. Godfrey Kasekenya, the Deputy Minister for Works, has given a 10-month ultimatum to contractors M/s Asabhi, responsible for the 80-meter Chakwale Bridge, and M/s Koberg, tasked with the 100-meter Nguyami Bridge, to complete the projects to the highest quality standards.
The bridges are part of the 41-kilometer Iyogwe-Chakwale-Ngilori (Gairo) road, which serves as a critical connector between the regions of Tanga, Morogoro, and Dodoma, offering a shorter route.
“The funds are available, so ensure these bridges are completed to the required standards to support heavy vehicles. Once the tarmac road is constructed, we don’t want to see any need for repairs,” Eng. Kasekenya emphasized.
The Deputy Minister also urged the residents of Gairo District in Morogoro and Kilindi District in Tanga to increase agricultural production to take full advantage of the ongoing infrastructure investments.
Eng. John Mkumbo, the Morogoro Regional Manager of the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), assured that the bridges, along with the five-meter connecting roads on each side, will be completed on time.
“We will closely monitor these contractors to ensure the projects deliver value for money and meet the expectations of the community,” Eng. Mkumbo stated.
The construction of the 80-meter Chakwale Bridge is expected to cost approximately TZS 6.4 billion, while the 100-meter Nguyami Bridge is projected to require TZS 7.1 billion.
