The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Kassim Majaliwa (MP), has praised the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) for its significant contributions to the development of the tourism sector in the country.
He highlighted the organization’s role in improving infrastructure, conservation efforts, and community engagement, which have collectively bolstered the country’s tourism industry.
Majaliwa made these remarks on March 25, 2025, during a brief ceremony to launch the new Ndea tourism gate located within the Mkomazi National Park in the Mwanga District, Kilimanjaro Region.
The gate, strategically located near the Kenyan border, is designed to enhance access to Mkomazi National Park and improve tourism flows between Tanzania and Kenya.
“We are officially launching the Ndea gate today with the aim of boosting the collection of government revenue. This gate is strategically positioned, as it is close to Kenya’s Tsavo National Park and near Mkomazi National Park. Strengthening tourism infrastructure like this will not only increase the number of tourists coming into Mkomazi but also create opportunities for cross-border tourism, benefiting both countries,” said Hon. Majaliwa.
The Prime Minister commended TANAPA for its continuous improvements in the conservation and tourism sectors.
He emphasized that the organization has made a substantial impact in enhancing Tanzania’s tourism offerings and creating economic opportunities for local communities, particularly those living near national parks.
He further noted that TANAPA’s commitment to conservation and sustainable tourism has been integral in positioning Tanzania as a premier destination for global travelers.
“I commend TANAPA for being a key player in conservation and tourism in Tanzania. Your contributions have played a major role in the success of the tourism sector. The positive changes we are seeing are directly benefiting local communities, particularly those in areas surrounding our national parks,” added the Prime Minister.
Nurdin Babu, the Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, also highlighted the economic benefits the new gate will bring to the local community in Mwanga District.
He noted that the Ndea gate would open up new opportunities for residents through various economic activities related to tourism.
From hospitality services to transportation, the value chain created by tourism will directly impact the livelihoods of local people.
The Commissioner emphasized that the Ndea gate would not only attract more tourists but also strengthen security within the park.
The gate will be equipped with security personnel and equipment to ensure the safety of visitors and wildlife alike, especially in managing the growing presence of elephants and other wildlife.
The Ndea gate project was part of a series of strategic developments within Mkomazi National Park. The project, which cost 350 million Tanzanian shillings, includes the construction of the gate, office space, a guest toilet with five stalls, a 4.5-kilometer road, and the installation of an electronic revenue collection system.
These improvements are expected to enhance the overall visitor experience and streamline operations at the park.
TANAPA remains committed to creating investment opportunities through infrastructure upgrades, contributing to both the conservation of Tanzania’s natural heritage and the economic empowerment of local communities.
