Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has instructed Regional and District Medical Officers to closely monitor government funds allocated for the procurement of essential medicines, ensuring that all health facilities and dispensaries are adequately stocked to meet the public's needs.
He emphasized that the government allocates significant funds for the purchase of essential medicines nationwide and expressed that it is unacceptable for citizens to be told to buy medicines from private pharmacies after seeking medical care at government health centers or dispensaries.
Majaliwa made these remarks during a public meeting on March 25, 2025, at Kiraweni Secondary School in Usangi Ward, Mwanga District, Kilimanjaro Region, as part of his one-day visit to inspect development projects in the area.
“I do not expect a resident of Mwanga to visit a dispensary, health center, or district hospital, receive a prescription, and then be told to go to a private shop to buy medication when the same medication is available at the facility,” he stated.
He reassured the public that the government allocates substantial funds every three months to purchase medicines across the country, and there is no reason for citizens to go without essential medicines when visiting government health centers.
“I want to assure the public that you can carry out your work peacefully; in the health sector, your government is committed to improving your health. Have confidence that the facilities are available to serve you,” he said.
“President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has provided clear directives in various sectors, including strengthening service delivery areas for the public,” Majaliwa added.
Additionally, the Prime Minister urged local government leaders to allocate funds from internal revenues to support development projects, including the construction of dispensaries in villages.
"I have directed them to assess the distances between villages and determine where to start. Build dispensaries strategically to ensure timely service delivery," he instructed.
Concluding his visit, Majaliwa encouraged the public to continue trusting their government and remain dedicated to working towards their own development.
“Keep trusting your government, as it is strong and will continue to serve and work for your betterment,” he reiterated.
