Mchengerwa orders Ikwiriri roads to be completed in two months

By The Respondent Reporter

The Minister of State in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (OR-TAMISEMI),  Mohamed Mchengerwa, has directed the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) in Pwani Region to ensure the completion of tarmac roads in Ikwiriri within two months.

He gave the order to TARURA Regional Manager, Engineer Leopold Runji, emphasizing that the roads must be finished by May 30, 2025.

Speaking during his visit to inspect the construction progress in Rufiji District, Mchengerwa made it clear that delays would not be tolerated.

"I am giving only two months. By May 30, 2025, these roads must be completed, including drainage systems and streetlights. There will be no extensions," he stressed.

He instructed the TARURA Manager to ensure contractors work day and night to meet the deadline. "This project should have been completed in December 2024. The fact that it is still unfinished is unacceptable. If these roads are not done within the given time, those responsible will face consequences," he warned.

The minister emphasized the importance of the project, saying that poor roads had long been a challenge for residents.

"People have suffered for too long. Businesses have been struggling, and transportation has been a nightmare, especially during the rainy season. This must change," he said.

Residents welcomed Mchengerwa’s firm stance and expressed their appreciation for the road improvements.

Ramadhan Mwipi, a motorcycle taxi rider, said the new roads would make transportation much easier. "Sometimes, when it rains, we can't even ride through these roads. Completing this project will be a huge relief for us," he said.

Mariam Hamza, a food vendor, also praised the project, saying it would help boost local businesses. "Good roads mean more customers because people can move around easily. I really appreciate the efforts of President Samia and Minister Mchengerwa," she said.

The Tanzanian government, under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has prioritized infrastructure development to support economic growth. Mchengerwa assured residents that the government remains committed to completing all planned projects. "We will not allow delays. Leaders and contractors must take their responsibilities seriously," he said.

As the deadline approaches, residents will be watching closely to see if the project is completed on time.

The minister’s strong message signals the government’s commitment to ensuring timely and quality infrastructure development.
