Fear in Muriet as three bodies found in brutal murders

By The Respondent Reporter

A chilling wave of fear has engulfed the residents of Muriet Ward in Arusha following the discovery of three bodies, victims of what appear to be brutal murders.

The first tragic incident occurred on March 26, 2025, when the bodies of a male and a female were found buried in a field on the outskirts of Eluwany Street.

The victims, whose identities remain unknown, showed severe signs of violence. The male victim had his eyes gouged out, and his body bore marks of being dragged before being buried.

The female victim, dressed in a patterned dress, was found face-down, showing similar signs of mistreatment.

Both bodies were taken to Mount Meru Referral Hospital mortuary for further investigation and identification, but no one has yet come forward to claim them.

Less than a week later, on April 5, another body was discovered by the side of the road near the well-known 'Kwa John' bridge, located in the same neighborhood.

The victim, a male, had visible injuries on his back, suggesting that he may have been tortured before being dumped.

A local street leader, Pinieli Midukieki, reported that the body was found by a Good Samaritan early in the morning, who quickly alerted the authorities. Police arrived promptly to remove the body for postmortem analysis.

This series of brutal discoveries has sparked widespread concern and fear among the Muriet community.

The remote and poorly lit areas surrounding the neighborhood, combined with the large, unmonitored fields, have raised suspicions that these crimes may not be isolated incidents but part of a larger pattern.

Women, children, and students especially those who travel early in the morning to markets or school are particularly anxious about their safety.

Local vendors, such as Anna Temba, expressed their growing fears. "We’re scared. What if we encounter these criminals on our way to the market at dawn?" she said, reflecting the deepening insecurity felt by many.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to uncover the identities of the victims and the motives behind the murders.

Arusha’s Police Commander, SACP Justine Masejo, called on residents to assist in the investigation by providing any information that may help solve the case.

Meanwhile, local leaders, including District Commissioner Joseph Mkude, have called for increased police patrols and enhanced security measures in the area. "We must act swiftly to prevent these heinous acts from continuing," Mkude stated.

As investigations continue, the fear among Muriet’s residents remains palpable. Many have expressed concerns that the area’s isolation and lack of adequate lighting are contributing factors that make it an easy target for criminals.

There is growing urgency for authorities to address these vulnerabilities and restore a sense of security in the community.

The recent murders in Muriet are a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring public safety and the need for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities.

With the investigation still ongoing, the questions surrounding these horrific events remain unanswered, leaving the community in suspense and fear.

Authorities are under pressure to bring justice to the victims and reassure residents that they are safe in their own neighborhood.
