Dar es Salaam, April 13, 2025 President Samia Suluhu Hassan has sent a heartfelt message of condolence following the tragic death of Engineer Gassima Nyamo-Hanga, the former Managing Director of the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), and his driver, Muhajir Mohamed Haule.
The two died in a car accident that occurred during the night leading into April 13, 2025, in Bunda District, Mara Region.
In her message, delivered through the Director of Presidential Communications, Sharifa B. Nyanga, President Samia expressed deep sorrow and sympathy to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, the Ministry of Energy, and the entire TANESCO family.
“The President conveys her sincere condolences to the Ministry of Energy, TANESCO, families, relatives, friends, and colleagues of the late Nyamo-Hanga and Haule,” the statement reads.
Engineer Nyamo-Hanga was widely respected for his commitment to public service and his contributions to the development of Tanzania’s power sector.
Under his leadership, TANESCO made notable progress in expanding electricity access and strengthening infrastructure across the country.
The sudden loss of such a dedicated and experienced public servant has shocked many, prompting an outpouring of grief from government officials, professionals in the energy sector, and the general public.
President Samia described the incident as a great loss for the nation, particularly at a time when Tanzania continues to invest heavily in energy projects to support industrialization and economic growth. She urged all citizens to keep the bereaved families in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
“May Almighty God rest the souls of the late Nyamo-Hanga and Haule in eternal peace,” she said.
