Tanzania women qualify for Futsal World Cup final

Tanzania's women’s national futsal team has written a new chapter in the country's sporting history by qualifying for the final of the 2024 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations (AFCON) and earning a coveted spot at the inaugural FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, set to take place later this year in Manila, Philippines.

The historic achievement came after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Cameroon in the semifinals held today in Rabat, Morocco. 

Tanzania’s players showed extraordinary determination, technical skill, and mental resilience to overcome their tough opponents in a tightly contested match.

This is the first time a Tanzanian women’s futsal team has reached the final of AFCON and qualified for the World Cup  a monumental moment that has sparked celebration across the country and drawn praise from national leaders.

 Husna Sekiboko, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Culture, and Sports, applauded the team for their remarkable performance and for proudly flying the Tanzanian flag on the continental stage.

“This is a proud moment for our nation,” said  Sekiboko. “Our young women have displayed outstanding talent, unity, and discipline. Qualifying for the World Cup is a dream come true and a clear sign that women’s sports in Tanzania are on the rise.”

She also extended her gratitude to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and to the government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan for their continued support of women’s sports development.

“Credit goes to the TFF and to the leadership of President Samia for empowering our female athletes and ensuring they have the resources to succeed at the highest levels,” she added.

As the team now prepares for the AFCON final, their focus will also begin to shift toward the global stage, where they will compete against the best futsal teams from around the world.

 Their story has not only united Tanzanians in pride but also inspired young girls across the country to pursue their dreams in sports.The road to Manila is now open, and Tanzania is ready to shine.
